Dental handpieces are divided into dental high-speed handpieces and dental low-speed handpieces. The speed of the high-speed handpiece reaches 350,000-42 million revolutions per minute, which is mainly used for treatment and repair (such as drilling and cutting). Low-speed handpieces are divided into straight machines and curved machines. The straight machines are used for polishing and are treated outside the mouth. If they are curved, they are treated inside the mouth.
High-speed handpieces will need to be replaced in 3 months. Low speed can be used for half a year to a year (depending on the number of patients and frequency of use).
Dental handpieces are the most commonly used equipment for clinical treatment in dentistry. Because they are in close contact with the patient’s saliva, blood, gingival crevicular fluid, and dental plaque during treatment, the surface and internal turbine components and pipes of the handpiece may be affected differently after use. It is one of the most dangerous devices that cause cross-infection clinically and must be sterilized.
